Landscaper hit in Phoenix street-racing crash dies, 2 teen drivers facing charges

PHOENIX - Authorities say two teenage drivers will face charges as adults after a street-racing crash in Phoenix allegedly caused the death of a landscaper.

Phoenix police say 61-year-old Octavio Grijalva Herrera died of his injuries Sunday.

He was critically injured in the March 26 crash.

Police say a 17-year-old boy apparently was racing a 16-year-old boy when the younger teen's car allegedly ran a stop sign. That touched off a five-vehicle collision.

They say an exterminator's pickup truck collided with a car before the truck went into a yard where the landscaper was working.

Police say the 16-year-old fled the scene after the crash while the other teen was detained for questioning.

They say both teens were facing charges of aggravated assault and endangerment, but now will face more serious charges.
