Kheylon Cunningham update: Suspect in Phoenix shooting captured by police

PHOENIX - Police say the suspect who shot a man in a Phoenix apartment Thursday morning has been captured.

According to Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump, 28-year-old Kheylon Cunningham was found hiding in an apartment complex near the shooting late Thursday night.

According to Crump, a 20-year-old man was shot just before 7 a.m. near Indian School Road and 23rd Avenue.

The victim Lemuel Warren, 19, who was shot at least once, was transported to the hospital in extremely critical condition but did not survive his injuries, Crump said.

Authorities said there were two other adults and two young children home at the time of the shooting.

Crump said one of the victims, a female in the home, had a relationship with Cunningham, and their relationship appears to be part of the motive in the shooting.

Police set up a perimeter in the area and sent children home who were waiting at school bus stops.

Crump said Cunningham was booked into jail on one count of first degree murder, one count of first degree burglary and one count of aggravated assault.
