PHOENIX - After nearly 50 years in business, a Phoenix bakery is closing its doors for good
Karsh's Bakery, which has been in operation since the early 1960s, is well known for their delicious line of full kosher baked goods.
Wayne Kindig, who took over the bakery from the original owners in 2005, says he decided to close the store Tuesday, saying he just couldn't pay his bills.
"The owners allowed me to close down like this instead of filing for bankruptcy."
Once the word got out, Kindig's customers decided to stock up. By 10 a.m., Kindig said most of his shelves were empty.
One of those customers, Leon Postal, says he has been buying bagels from the bakery for the past 40 years.
His favorite spot is shutting down, so Leon, along with several others, stocked up on their favorites before the bakery shut its doors.
It's a bittersweet day for Leon, because once he pays, it's goodbye.
According to Leon, "It's like losing a good friend."
