Jerry Marfe, ex-Phoenix high school teacher, enters not guilty plea in sex case

PHOENIX - A former Phoenix high school teacher accused of soliciting sex with underage girls has pleaded not guilty.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 54-year-old Jerry Marfe entered his plea at his arraignment Monday.

His next scheduled court date is Feb. 13.

Authorities say Marfe was arrested Dec. 6 on suspicion of two counts of prostitution with a minor.

He was one of 111 people arrested in a massive prostitution and drug sting operation by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's officials say undercover video shows Marfe at a Tempe hotel with undercover officers he believes are 16-year-old prostitutes he met online. Marfe allegedy asked the "girls" to participate in various sex acts for money.

Marfe taught in the Phoenix Union High School District for 27 years. He resigned after his arrest.
