PHOENIX - Officials are investigating after a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 17 in Phoenix early Wednesday morning.
According to the Department of Public Safety, a couple in their 30s stopped by the side of the road when their vehicle broke down around 1 a.m. on northbound I-17 at 7th Street.
The man got out of the car to check under the hood, got back into the Toyota Camry and then was rear-ended by a truck.
The 25-year-old driver of the truck, identified as Kyle Thomas Cruz, talked to the man and woman in the Camry and then fled the scene on foot, DPS said.
Officials caught Cruz shortly after the incident. Officers are investigating if impairment was a factor in the crash.
The woman in the Camry is in serious condition, the man suffered minor injuries.
The northbound lanes of Interstate 17 were closed for several hours on Wednesday morning.
Cruz faces charges of leaving the scene of an injury accident and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
