Police work to solve deadly Phoenix hit-and-run mystery

PHOENIX - A Valley family and police need your help finding the person responsible for a deadly hit-and-run that killed a grandmother of 10.

On Friday, February 10th, Martha Sanchez was crossing Indian School Road near 28th Street when a driver in a small sedan hit her and fled the scene.

Sanchez died six weeks later from her injuries.

The grandmother of 10 and mother of four died alone and now her family is pleading for anyone who witnessed the event to come forward.

"This is a very busy intersection and it happened on a Friday evening," said Silent Witnesses' Darren Burch. "We know somebody saw this."

Had the driver stayed behind to help or wait for police, they would face no charges because Sanchez did not use the crosswalk.

The accident was not the driver's fault.

But when the driver made the decision to flea, he or she committed a crime and faces serious felony charges.

If you have any information in this case, you're asked to call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or you can submit your anonymous tip online .

There is a $1,000 reward for a tip that leads to an arrest or indictment.
