A 29-year-old man had to be carried off a mountain Sunday morning in Phoenix after he was assaulted.

Phoenix police say the victim met another man this morning in Phoenix, and the two decided to go to the mountain trail together.

Police say the two had not known each other prior to meeting Sunday morning.

Police say at some point on the trail the victim was hit over the head with a rock, and the suspect fled. Police don't know why the assault took place, and don't have a strong description of the suspect. The suspect is described as a man around 28-years-old with tattoos on his arm.

Phoenix fire carted the man down the trail and he was taken to the hospital. The victim is in stable condition and his injuries are non-life threatening.
