BENTONVILLE, AR - Walmart's new "Golden Spark" promotion aims to fund Valley children in need, bringing in monetary grants and meals to communities around the country.
Valley food banks have suffered an extreme product shortage , cutting supplies and funding to those who need it most.
Valley shoppers can participate in this program by winning "Golden Spark" prizes, or by generating meal donations in a variety of different ways.
Walmart says that through Oct. 14, they will award customers 40 "Golden Spark" awards.
Winners can choose a community to receive the $50,000 which will be used to create or extend backpack programs for kids who don't have normal access to food.
Through Oct. 12, customers can also help the Feeding America organization by purchasing select products from Walmart. Some of these products contain instructions on the packaging or customers can follow directions online, in-store or through an app to give a meal to children in need.
This program is part of the Fighting Hunger Together Initiative, a program that is possible because of customers, associates, Feeding America, ConAgra Foods, General Mills, Kellogg Company, Kraft Foods and Unilver, according to Walmart.
