Arizona's triple-digit temperatures could reach 114 degrees this weekend leading the National Weather Service to issue an excessive heat warning.

Meteorologists say the warning will last through the heart of the weekend from Friday at 10 a.m. until Sunday at 8 p.m. Highs are expected to reach between 108 and 114 degrees. Saturday is expected to be the hottest day.

The warning is in place for Phoenix and areas in southwestern Arizona including Yuma and Lake Havasu City. The heat will be the result of a high pressure system that's expected to move into the state later this week.

The National Weather Service is warning people to take precautions for children and pets and to drink extra water.
