Hawaii stowaway has airports re-examining security

PHOENIX - In light of the teenage stowaway on a Hawaiian Airlines flight from California to Hawaii, airports around the country are re-examining security.

At Sky Harbor in Phoenix, spokeswoman Deborah Ostreicher says the first layer of security is the fence - you'd have to get over the barbed wire.

“Even if you broke through one layer, there are many more security layers in place that you would be unlikely to get past,” said Ostreicher.

There are security cameras pointed at the fence and people watching from the flight tower, as well as airport police who do drive by patrols of the fence.

“We have numerous cameras and eye balls who are watching out and scanning the airport at all times," Ostreicher said.

Pilots also do visual checks of the plane wheel-wells before each flight.
