PHOENIX - Governor Jan Brewer has reportedly announced changes to her senior staff, appointing a new Director of Policy and Director of Legislative Affairs.
Michael Hunter, the Governor's Director of Legislative Affairs will be taking on a new role as Director of Policy. Hunter will continue his duties as a Special Advisor on Tax Policy and Reform, according to a news release.
Page Gonzales, the former Director of Policy, accepted a position as Chief of Staff to Maricopa County Supervisor-elect Steve Chucri.
Hunter has held positions on the Arizona Board of Regents as Government Affairs Director, Vice President of the Arizona Tax Research Association, and Senior Policy Advisor for Budget and Finance for the Arizona State Senate Majority Staff.
He joined Gov. Brewer's administration in 2010.
"Michael is one of my most-trusted advisors, and is well-known for his expertise in matters of public finance and taxation," said Gov. Brewer in a news release. "His background and knowledge of the Legislature will be helpful as he assumes new responsibilities in helping lead my policy agenda. I know he'll continue to play a critical role in this administration and serve the State of Arizona well."
Hunter's previous role of Director of Legislative Affairs will be filled by Lorna Romero, who has served as Deputy Director to Hunter since August of last year. She also served as Director of Government Relations for the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Romero has involved herself in commerce policies and workforce development since her time with Gov. Brewer's administration, and has also formed important relationships with those in legislation, according to a news release.
Gov. Brewer seems confident in both individuals who will take over important roles in the administration.
Staff changes were brought about after news that Gonzales would be ending her current position.
The staff changes will take effect on Dec. 19.
