He put his life on the line every day to serve his community, but now a Phoenix officer hurt in an on-duty crash is in need of help.

Officer James Wolfenden was badly hurt when an impaired driver ran a red light near 35th and Glendale avenues on June 18, which was Father’s Day.

The father of two survived the crash, but suffered a shattered pelvis. He has endured a painful recovery process.

The Phoenix Law Enforcement Association is planning a fundraiser to help the Wolfenden family meet financial responsibilities in the wake of the crash.

“My hopes and prayers are that, with enough therapy and rehab, he would be able to come back full duty, but time will tell on that,” said Ken Crane, the president of the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association.

The fundraiser cookout is set for Monday, July 17 from 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. at the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association located at 1102 W. Adams Street.

PLEA asks that donations also be made for the Wolfenden family by visiting this link. All money donated in Officer Wolfenden’s name will go directly to his family.
