Former member of Phoenix Police force arrested on suspicion of child porn

PHOENIX - A former member of the Phoenix police force was arrested Friday after reportedly possessing child pornography.

According to Phoenix police, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force served a search warrant at 61-year-old Robert Carrillo's Chandler home.

During the search, detectives found a large number of photographs depicting sexual exploitation of children in his home.

Carrillo was arrested and booked into jail on 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos confirmed that Carrillo was a former member of the department and had retired earlier this year.

Carrillo had been with the department for 30 years.

In 1999 he and his partner were shot in the line of duty near 24th Street and Broadway Road. The suspect shot at Carrillo but just grazed his lip. His partner was shot in the hand and arm. Both made a quick recovery.

Doug Ground lives across the street from Carrillo.

Ground says undercover snipers with Phoenix Police Department knocked on his backyard door. They stood on top of his roof while Carrillo was taken into custody.

"When we moved in and learned he was an officer it was a security, you know, having a 30 year veteran across the street and then to find something like that out it's just a horrible thing," said Ground.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
