PHOENIX - A former Valley teacher and coach has been sentenced to one year in prison and seven years of supervised probation after being accused of sexual abuse that goes back at least 30 years.
Dan Whitehead, 73, received the sentence for two counts of sexual abuse and one count of furnishing obscene materials to minors.
Whitehead was a math teacher at Brophy College Preparatory School, an all-boys prep school in Phoenix.
He was accused of sexually abusing several students in the 80s.
Whitehead was arrested in September 2012 and nearly a year later entered his guilty plea .
Whitehead was fired in November 2011 after two former Brophy Prep students claimed he had molested them.
At the time, the students didn’t want to contact police, but police conducted an investigation anyway and found that Whitehead allegedly invited students to his home, gave them alcohol and then tried to fondle them.
Prosecutors testified there were more victims, but statutory limitation prevented Whitehead from facing charges in those cases.
