FD: Woman in critical condition after Phoenix fire

PHOENIX - One person has been transported to the hospital after an early-morning apartment fire in Phoenix.

According to Phoenix fire, the fire started at Papago Gardens, a 32-unit apartment complex at 48th Street and McDowell Road around 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

An adult female called 911 telling officials she was trapped in her apartment, Phoenix fire said.

Firefighters made access into the stairwell and had to fight flames to get to the victim.

The female resident was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Two dogs were also killed in the fire.

The fire was contained to one unit of the complex.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
