PHOENIX - A 47-year-old man had to be rescued off a Phoenix mountain Friday after apparently hiking for a majority of the day and got lost.
Scottsdale Battallion Chief Bob Rucker said the man had apparently been hiking throughout the McDowell Mountain Preserve since 8 a.m.
He was about 1.5 miles from the Gateway Trailhead, but was too exhausted to finish, according to Rucker. The man also reported suffering heat-related symptoms.
Paramedics used a helicopter to fly the man off the mountain and into an ambulance to a local hospital.
Scottsdale Fire wants to remind everyone that hiking during Arizona summers should be planned out, as temperatures can increase by mid-morning.
