FD: Phoenix apartment fire considered to be arson

PHOENIX - Phoenix firefighters are trying to figure out who started a massive fire at a Phoenix apartment complex.

Investigators say the first flames were spotted around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Neighbors called 911, but within minutes flames burst through the building's roof and started spreading throughout the complex.

More than 60 firefighters were called to 7th Avenue and Campbell to help fight the fire.

Fire officials say the intensity of the blaze forced them to take a defensive stance.

Fire investigators don't know what caused the fire but they are considering it to be arson.

Neighbors in the area say the apartment complex has been abandoned for the last two years.

16 apartments in the complex were damaged. Most of the roof of the complex was burned away during the fire.
