FD: 2 cars, home, shopping cart set on fire in same Phoenix neighborhood

PHOENIX - After a string of early Thursday morning fires in the same area, Phoenix firefighters say they are looking for an arsonist.

Five fires were found burning within a half-mile radius in the area between 28th and 36th streets to Thomas and Indian School roads.

Fire officials said an officer on patrol spotted the first fire around 2 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they found debris burning in an alley.

Firefighters got a second call after a car was found burning in a car port near 32nd Street and Osborn Avenue.

Twenty minutes later, another police officer spotted a car burning in a school parking lot.

The fourth fire was called in by witnesses. It happened at a home near the intersection of Earll Road and 36th Street.

Phoenix fire responded to a fifth suspicious fire near 21st Street and Palm Lane. Debris was found burning in front of a structure just after 6 a.m.

Fire investigators have been able to confirm three of the fires as arson. The other two fires are still being investigated.

No suspects have been found or arrested, but Phoenix police say they have found the owner of a car that witnesses say was suspicious.

Firefighters are asking anyone with information to contact them.
