Sara Esparza's family trying to pay for funeral after she was killed by driver high on drugs

PHOENIX - A Valley family is struggling to keep their spirits up this Christmas as they raise money their sister's funeral.

Sara Esparza was killed last week when police say a man high on drugs crashed into her vehicle at an intersection. The mother of four was killed instantly.

Phoenix police say Fidel Ortiz was driving at a high rate of speed when he hit Esparza.

After the crash, witnesses saw Ortiz get out of his car and run away from the scene. Officers later found and arrested him.

Short on money this holiday season, Esparza's family washed cars and collected donations Saturday. They plan to do it again Sunday, all to pay for Esparza's funeral expenses.

Esparza's family told ABC15 it has been very difficult dealing with her sudden death because of a reckless driver.

"He took that life of our sister that we all love, and it's not the same without her," Esparza's sister Marie Nichols said.

If you want to help the Esparza family, or just have a dirty vehicle, they are washing cars Sunday at the O'Reilly Auto Parts store on Baseline Road and 3rd Street.

The family has setup an account for donations at Bank of America. The account is under the name Sara Esparza. The account number is #4570-2069-2834
