Family and friends are mourning the loss of a local hip-hop artist who was gunned down last weekend.

Deshawn McDonald, or D Mac Deluxx, would have turned 27 Saturday. Friends and family gathered at the Knight’s Inn to pay their respects and mourn McDonald.

"All I can do is say keep my brother's name alive keep his dream alive and just make it right man it's hard,” McDonald’s brother, Keith McDonald, said.

Last week, the aspiring rapper was out celebrating his birthday a week early at a nightclub. Shots were later fired outside the club and McDonald was found in a string of bushes outside the Knight’s Inn.

"It ain't right and I know this was done out of pure hate and it doesn't sit well," McDonald said. "I can only speak for myself but it doesn't sit well with me."

No arrests have been made in the case.
