Ex-MCSO deputy out of jail on supervised release

PHOENIX - A former Maricopa County sheriff's deputy arrested on drug charges is out of jail on supervised release with electronic monitoring.

The ex-40-year-old deputy had his initial court appearance Tuesday.

He was taken into custody Monday following a barricade situation at his west Phoenix home.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of possession of dangerous drugs, marijuana possession, misconduct involving weapons and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He doesn't have an attorney yet and has a scheduled May 19 status conference and May 23 preliminary hearing.

Authorities began investigating the deputy on Wednesday when he called 911, telling operators that a burglar was in his home.

When Phoenix police arrived, officers reported finding the suspect chasing a phantom burglar while armed with a pepper ball gun.

He resigned from the sheriff's office last Friday.
