25-year-old Elise Garcia, charged with first-degree murder and unlawful disposal of human remains in a 2011 double murder, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison.

Police say Garcia and her boyfriend, Alan Matthew Champagne, participated in the murders, which were discoveredwhen landscapers found two bodies buried in the backyard of a Phoenix home.

Champagne was already in jail on an unrelated aggravated assault case when police identified him as a suspect.

The case began in October 2011 when Phoenix homicide detectives learned of a possible double murder at a Phoenix apartment earlier in the year.

They went to the apartment where a man and woman were reportedly murdered during an argument.

Champagne was the first suspect identified, and Garcia was later connected.
