PHOENIX - Phoenix firefighters are crediting a group of teenagers with saving the lives of a woman and her two children.
The family of three was trapped inside their apartment near 7th Street and Bell Road when the fire started.
Justin Rose and his friends say they were swimming in a nearby pool and when he started smelling smoke and hearing screams.
"We see this lady open her window and she's screaming help me, help me. And we are like lady put your kids out the window, we will catch them, trust us," said Rose.
Rose and his friends then caught a 3-year-old and a 6-year-old child the woman dropped from a second story balcony.
Firefighters say the teens are heroes.
"With that much fire at this time of night we were surprised we didn't have any injuries or fatalities," said Phoenix fire spokesperson Mike Sandulak.
Once firefighters arrived they were able to put out the fire before it spread to the entire complex.
Eight units were destroyed in the fire. Officials are still trying to determine what caused the fire.
The mother of two also jumped from her second story apartment and was caught by the teens.
She sustained minor bumps and scratches.
