PHOENIX - A stretch of Interstate 17 in Phoenix has reopened after a fatal car-pedestrian accident on Thursday morning.
The closure on southbound I-17 was just north of where I-17 splits off from Interstate 10 south of downtown.
DPS spokesman Bart Graves said the body of an unidentified woman was found on the freeway.
DPS officers are speaking with the driver of a vehicle that may have struck the woman. Graves said that driver likely won't be charged in the incident.
The victim has not yet been identified. Graves said the victim is a black woman who is possibly in her 30s. It is believed she was struck several times.
According to DPS, they don't believe the woman was homeless based on her teeth and the clothes she was wearing.
DPS did not find any stopped or abandoned cars in the area where she was struck.
