PHOENIX - One person was killed and five left injured after a single-vehicle rollover wreck Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 10 in Phoenix.
Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Carrick Cook said the front passenger inside the SUV was ejected when the vehicle rolled over on westbound I-10 near 12th Street.
According to Cook, when the SUV rolled, it landed on the passenger. Passersby reportedly exited their cars and were able to roll the vehicle into the freeway median.
It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control and flip the vehicle.
Air15 video showed the silver SUV surrounded by police tape as heavy rush-hour backups formed in both the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-10.
Four of the other people inside the car were transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The fifth victim was transported in stable condition.
Officials have not yet identified the person killed in the wreck.
Cook said impairment has not yet been ruled out as a factor in the crash.
