Carl Hayden High School says no backpacks, Valentine's Day gifts in wake of shooting threat

PHOENIX - Carl Hayden High School officials sent out a letter to parents Thursday asking students not to bring backpacks or large bags to school on Friday in the wake of a shooting threat.

Police said a note or message was found on the high school’s campus that said a shooting would happen on Friday.

Phoenix Union School District spokesman Craig Pletenik said in addition to the backpacks and large bags, students will not be allowed to bring Valentine’s Day gifts like stuffed animals.

Pletenik said if students do bring gifts like these, they’ll be kept in the school security office until the end of the day.

Classes will still be in session all day Friday, and Carl Hayden will have extra security on hand as well.

Police are still investigating to figure out who’s behind the threat.
