Home surveillance cameras have proven some criminals are as dumb as they look. A recent Valley case is no exception.

Kevin Bourgeois says a burglar struck in the middle of the night back in April.

The timestamp on the video shows the first flicker of activity around 3:09 a.m.

A guy in his 20’s, wearing a backpack, riding a bike, rolls up and goes right to work, smashing and kicking Kevin’s car window.

The crook is after a pair of sunglasses. He struggles for several minutes and finally get his hands on the sunglasses and disappears into the night.

"As you can see in the video, he takes his time. He was concerned about the neighborhood, but otherwise, he took his time,” said Bourgeois.

Kevin says his neighbors have been hit before and that’s why he installed the cameras.

This time, Kevin got a look at a possible suspect.

Police say video can be crucial to solving these random crimes.

That was the case in a December 2015 Peoria car burglar.

Video caught the crime and within hours, police had their man.

“Within 24 hours, we had a suspect identified in that case, and about another 24 hours that suspect was in custody. several weeks later that suspect pleaded guilty because there was video evidence of him committing the crime,” said Officer Brandon Sheffert with Peoria Police.

If you know the burglar in the video, call Phoenix police.
