Brandon McCabe update: Jury convicts man in wounding of Phoenix officer

PHOENIX - A jury has returned guilty verdicts against a convicted felon in a 2013 shooting in which a Phoenix police officer was wounded.

A Maricopa County Superior Court spokesman says a jury on Thursday convicted Brandon McCabe of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, misconduct involving weapons, criminal trespassing and resisting arrest.

McCabe was accused of shooting Officer Peter "Chris" Bennett the night of Jan. 6. The 36-year-old Bennett survived wounds to his face, right arm and right hip.

Police said Bennett approached McCabe in an area with a high burglary rate. They said McCabe ignored the officer's command and the two exchanged gunfire.

McCabe was arrested after being found hiding in a shed. He had gunshot wounds to both hands.

He's sentenced to be sentenced Oct. 3 by Judge Karen Mullins.
