A baby otter abandoned in the Valley was rescued by Salt River Project crews last month.

According to the Arizona Game and Fish Department, SRP workers were working in a drying Valley canal around 6 p.m. on April 20 when they found a baby otter at the bottom.

SRP took the young animal to AZGFD's Adobe Mountain Wildlife Center where veterinarians found that it was dehydrated, hungry, anemic and infested with fleas.

After caring for it for nearly a week, the baby otter was in better health and taken to Out of Africa Wildlife Park on April 26.

On Facebook, AZGFD said the animal was turned over to the wildlife park because it was abandoned and previously cared for by humans, so it wouldn't have good chances of survival after being returned to the wild.
