Ashley Elizabeth Eide's bond set at $50,000 in Phoenix apartment shooting

Bond is set at $50,000 for a woman accused in the fatal shooting of her live-in boyfriend at a Phoenix apartment complex.

Ashley Elizabeth Eide was arrested Sunday on suspicion of manslaughter.

The 24-year-old Eide had her initial court appearance Monday and doesn't have an attorney yet.

In that appearance, the county prosecutor pointed out Eide had been the victim of domestic violence.

"The state believes as the police have indicated that there are issues as to whether the shooting was unlawful, accidental or justified," the prosecutor said.

Criminal defense attorney Rich Richelsoph said it's up to the county attorney's office what happens next.

"If she believed that she was going to be the victim of an aggravated assault causing serious physical injury, that could be a justification for a use of force," he said.

Phoenix police responded to a call of shots fired around 4 a.m. Saturday near Indian School Road and 71st Avenue and found 26-year-old Fernando Ruelas dead on a stairwell landing.

Police say Eide told investigators that she and Ruelas argued and he hit her several times.

She told police that she feared for her life but didn't mean to shoot him.

Police say Eide had injuries to her face when officers arrived at the apartment complex.

Eide's 5-year-old child was home at the time of the incident but wasn't injured.
