PHOENIX - Arizona health officials are working to identify the source of a series of illnesses associated with bloody diarrhea in the West Valley.
According to the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, 11 people, who all know each other, have reported this illness so far. Seven of them have been hospitalized.
In collaboration with the Arizona Department of Health Services, the MCDPH are investigating the illness, which appears to be caused by bacteria that produces a toxin.
This toxin can cause severe illness, especially in children, and can lead to kidney failure and even death.
Dr. Bob England, the director of MCDPH, urges West Valley residents who are experiencing this symptom to seek medical care.
