PHOENIX - A Valley radio station is ending it's decade-long run to make way for a sports news radio expansion.
Arizona Sports will now be simulcast on 98.7 FM. The station already has a home on 620AM. This expansion will make it the state's first FM Sports station, said Bonneville Media Phoenix Vice President and Market Manager Scott Sutherland.
As a result of the change, The Peak, an "originator of the Adult Hits music format" celebrated its last show on Monday, said Sutherland.
"Putting Arizona Sports on FM is an opportunity too big to ignore," said Sutherland in an emailed statement.
The station hopes the move will expand its audience and community impact. Eleven positions were eliminated, he said.
Arizona Sports broadcasts the Phoenix Suns, Arizona Cardinals, Arizona Diamondbacks, Phoenix Coyotes, Arizona State University and the Arizona Interscholastic Association prep sporting events from around the state.
Bonneville Media Phoenix also owns KTAR 92.3 FM.
