2-month-old Chipper ready for adoption

PHOENIX - Jonathan McDonell from Halo Animal Rescue, a no-kill shelter, stopped by the ABC15 studio with Chipper, a 2-month-old Doberman puppy.

Chipper’s been fostered by a staff member for several weeks. He was in bad shape when he was found and has been nursed back to health and been socialized really well, McDonell said.

The perfect family will be very active because he’s going to be an active dog. He’s going to need exercise and room to run around

McDonell also talked about keeping your pets safe this summer by making sure they have plenty of clean, fresh water.

You’ll know your pet is suffering from heat stroke or heat exhaustion by a change in their behavior. They’ll first become lethargic and withdrawn and detached from what’s going on.

He also said if you’re going to take your dog out hiking, be sure to bring plenty of water along for them, too. And to remember how hot the pavement and sidewalks will get during the heat of day when you go out for a walk.

And never leave your pet in the car, where temperatures can quickly soar.

Chipper will be available for adoption starting at 9 a.m. at the Deer Valley PetSmart Store, located at 2901 W. Agua Fria Freeway in North Phoenix.

Other animals are available at the Halo Animal Rescue, located at 2500 S. 27th Avenue in Phoenix.
