1 brother dead, 1 hurt after Phoenix fight

PHOENIX - Authorities say one man is dead and his brother was wounded after a fight in central Phoenix Friday night.

Phoenix police said 50-year-old Johnny Espindola was killed in the altercation that took place near 53rd Avenue and Indian School Road just before 7 p.m.

His older brother, who police did not identify, received a non-life-threatening injury.

Police said officers were called to an apartment complex where they found the victims lying in the parking lot with obvious signs of trauma.

Both men were taken to local hospitals where Espindola died.

Detectives learned during the investigation that the two men were in the parking lot when they were approached by a male suspect.

Police said that for some unknown reason the three men got into an argument which quickly escalated into a physical fight.

Police did not say how the victims were injured.

The suspect had left the scene by the time police arrived.
