AHWATUKEE, AZ - Valley teachers are learning the art of self defense for free.
The classes are being offered by a Valley karate expert who felt compelled to do something after seeing tragedies at America's schools. He thought using his skills to help the people who protect our children seemed like a good move.
"Just a few basic skills so they can get some distance and get away" said David Hays who runs Fitness Waves Fitness Center.
Around here they call it stun and run.
About eight teachers were at the class on Tuesday night. More teachers are scheduled for future classes.
It's a five-week course and for Valley educators it is free.
"It's been a real eye opener" says Valley Principal Kelley Brunner. "We all have to take steps to protect ourselves so we can protect others."
A police officer will also teach participants when to run, hide or fight back.
