Phoenix police warning Ahwatukee residents of criminal damage in area

AHWATUKEE, AZ - Phoenix police are advising Ahwatukee residents to be aware of criminal damage in the area.

Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump said there have been 50 incidents in the past couple of weekends of suspects breaking out vehicle and residential windows in the Ahwatukee area.

Police say the incidents occur mostly on weekend nights.

The suspects threw a rock into Renee Bau's home on Valentines Day. " I saw a car speed by, and I went to the window to look and I suddenly heard a boom and thought it was a gun so I ducked," she said.

Bau and her boyfriend have put a sign over the broken glass offering a $1,000 reward for information.

"They are doing it for no reason" said Phoenix Police Sergeant Trent Crump. "They are not gaining anything, it's just simple damage," he said.

Police are describing the suspect's vehicle as a newer Ford Focus or Chevy Malibu. The vehicle has tinted windows and a black stripe down both sides of the car.

The suspects are described as juvenile males. Police say the incidents have all occurred around juvenile-related parties.

If you have any information related to the break-ins call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS. A reward is being offered.
