AHWATUKEE, AZ - A first-alarm fire broke out early Monday morning in Ahwatukee.
According to officials, the fire started around 3 a.m. in the back of one house and jumped over to the attic of a neighboring house near 48th street and Warner Road..
Officials say a smoke detector is credited to saving the lives of both families.
The smoke alarm woke up a mother inside the home where the fire initially started, and she got up and brought her husband and two children to safety outside the house.
No one was reported to be injured in either of the houses.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
