FBI, Phoenix police investigating after man straps suspicious device to Valley bank employee's neck

AHWATUKEE, AZ - Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and Phoenix police are investigating after a man strapped a suspicious device to a Valley bank employee Saturday morning.

FBI spokesman Manuel Johnson said the bank worker was taken hostage by the suspect and brought to the Bank of America at 48th Street and Ray Road around 8:30 a.m.

By the time several other employees arrived at the bank the man had fled, Johnson said.

Responding officers discovered the suspect had placed some type of device around the employee's neck. Bomb squad agents were called in to assist and determined it was a fake bomb and removed the device.

Officials say the woman was held against her will overnight and brought to bank on Saturday morning to open up the Bank of America.

The woman is in good condition, and a motive in the incident is unclear at this time.

Johnson said the FBI is working with Phoenix police in a joint investigation.
