Residents of an Ahwatukee neighborhood have complaints about weekend music that traveled miles and went on for hours.

The Crush Arizona rave, a dance party with pulsing electronic music, was at Rawhide Western Town and Event Center Saturday night.

“It’s wrong,” Kathy McAvoy said of the music that could be heard at her home near 44th Street and Chandler Boulevard. “I don’t think we should be at the mercy of private parties at Rawhide.”

Rawhide is near the Wild Horse Pass Hotel and Casino on the Gila River Indian Community.

The venue is about two miles, as the crow flies, from McAvoy’s home

“The kitchen windows were rattling” because of the music, McAvoy said.

The music started at 4 p.m. Saturday continued until she fell asleep at 3 a.m., McAvoy said. She explained that being able to hear the music so clearly is not normal for her neighborhood.

McAvoy said Phoenix Police told her that since the event is on the reservation, Phoenix officers have no jurisdiction or power.

An after-hours email to Rawhide requesting comment Wednesday night did not get a response.
