Katie Lusk attacked by bobcat in Northern Arizona

SHOW LOW, AZ - The Arizona Game and Fish Department says in a press release that a woman was scratched and bitten by a bobcat Sunday night behind a Lowe's store.

Officials say necropsy and rabies testing are being performed on the animal which was seen acting aggressively near the attack site in Show Low.

The woman, identified as Katie Lusk, was given rabies vaccines and anti-rabies serum as a precaution. The bobcat was spotted nearby by a Navajo County deputy sheriff, who killed it.

A department spokesman says "Bobcats rarely attack people, but when they do, the animal is often rabid."

The department says the last case of a bobcat testing positive for rabies anywhere in Arizona was a single incident in 2011.
