SHOW LOW, AZ - Police said a fire burning at a Show Low plant led to the closure of a stretch of U.S. 60 and forced some businesses in the area to evacuate.
US 60 from SR 77 to Bourden Ranch (mileposts 342-347) reopened around 6:30 p.m.
The blaze broke out Tuesday afternoon at Forest Energy Corporation.
Officials say the blaze started when an excavator being used to unload a log truck caught on fire and spread into the log deck.
Authorities say some businesses near the plant were evacuated as a precaution.
Air tankers dropped water on the flames to keep the fire from jumping the road and threatening homes.
Show Low fire officials say the blaze was mostly being fueled by scrub oaks and not ponderosa pines.
The town's fire department was assisted by fire officials from Linden, Lakeside and the U.S. Forest Service.
Officials say the fire was contained around 8:40 p.m. No one was hurt and the damage from the fire is estimated to be around $1 million.
Forest Energy Corporation manufactures wood fuel pellets, horse and animal bedding and densified wood fire logs, among other products.
