PINETOP, AZ - A Pinetop man is reaching deeper into his pockets these days.
The man, who wished to remain anonymous, collected his $4.9 million prize after purchasing a winning Arizona Lottery ticket in Lakeview, Ariz., on Jan. 25, according to lottery officials.
The winning ticket came from playing The Pick, where players select six numbers between 1 and 44 and win by matching three or more numbers.
The Arizona winner decided to take a lump-sum payout, which amounts to $2,972,633 before taxes, according to the lottery officials.
The man said he had played The Pick with the same numbers for 23 years, including his birth date and time of birth. He had stopped playing, but bought a ticket one last time to celebrate his birthday, said Lottery officials.
The Arizona Lottery funds state programs and has paid out more than $5.4 billion to players since it began in 1981, said officials.
