SHOW LOW, AZ - Authorities say a 19-year-old was killed and another 19-year-old was injured after their vehicle drove off a highway into a canyon in Gila County on Christmas Eve.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the driver was traveling in a 2001 Toyota pickup on U.S. 60 near Show Low at about 7 p.m. Tuesday when he missed a turn and drove off the road.
According to DPS, the pickup plunged about 1,000 feet down the Salt River Canyon.
The driver was killed in the crash. The 19-year-old female passenger was hospitalized.
The severity of her injuries wasn't immediately known.
