SEDONA, AZ - Authorities say a woman was rescued Friday evening from a ledge in the Oak Creek Canyon area.
Elise Heon, 50, of Canada was staying at the Junipine Resort in Oak Creek Canyon and was reported missing around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Erika Wiltenmuth with the Coconino County Sheriff's Office.
Her wallet, identification, cell phone, clothing, eyeglasses, and iPad were still in the room, and there were no signs of foul play, Wiltenmuth said.
A resort staff member recalled that Heon had asked about hiking areas, so search and rescue crews began looking for her nearby throughout the night and Friday morning.
Around 8 a.m., dispatch got a report from a woman in the area about hearing distress calls, Wiltenmuth said.
The search and rescue crews were then able to make verbal contact with Heon, who was stranded on a narrow ledge about 700 feet from the bottom of the canyon, Wiltenmuth said.
She said Heon was alert and talking to rescuers.
The Technical Rescue Team raised Heon up to the rim of the canyon around 5 p.m., using a mechanical rope system, Wiltenmuth said.
Heon was then airlifted to the Slide Rock area and refused medical treatment, she said.
