SEDONA, AZ - Arizona transportation authorities have reopened a portion of the highway through Oak Creek Canyon that was closed earlier today due to flooding.
The Department of Transportation said the section of State Route 89A near the switchbacks north of Sedona was closed Sunday afternoon. They were urging travelers to use State Route 179 or Interstate 17 as alternatives.

Oak Creek is near the burn scar left from the Slide Fire, a human-caused blaze that charred more than 33 square miles before being contained last month. Campgrounds and recreation sites in the canyon were already closed due to flood danger.
The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch in Oak Creek after as much as an inch of rain fell in the area in less than an hour.
