PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - A 21-year-old woman is behind bars for allegedly stealing mail and checks from people on her newspaper delivery route.
Yavapai County Sheriff's Office spokesman Dwight Develyn said officers recovered credit card statements, utility bills and other mail including a $300 check, in Elizabeth Gill's home near North Treasure Drive and East Sunset Lane in Prescott Valley.
Deputies learned Gill has a newspaper delivery route in Mayer, Arizona where a majority of the mail was from.
Two of the mail theft victims confirmed the checks had been stolen from their mailboxes.
Develyn said Gill denied direct knowledge of the mail and checks saying they must have been left by the prior occupants of her home.
Authorities said Gill is on probation for a prior check fraud. Deputies found a route log confirming her delivery work in the neighborhoods where the mail was stolen. She also worked a route in Spring Valley and Cordes Lakes.
Gill was arrested and booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center on five counts of burglary, identity theft, theft, and a probation violation.
