Fire in Prescott National Forest: Wildfire sparks just south of Prescott

PRESCOTT, AZ - Fire crews said a wildfire that started near Prescott Monday afternoon has died down considerably.

On Monday night, forestry officials said they are unable to see any heat or flames.

Prescott National Forest officials said they got a call around 4 p.m. that the fire had erupted in the forest.

It is unclear at this time how big the blaze is, or what caused it.

The fire is about seven miles east of Wilhoit, just south of Prescott.

A crew from the Prescott National Forest will be in the area first thing Tuesday morning to check the fire's progress.

Officials said the fire is currently not threatening any homes.
