Prescott police say a 73-year-old man was arrested after he admitted to shooting his roommate over an argument about the Goodwin Fire.

Police responded to a home on Murphy Circle around 3 p.m. Wednesday where they located a 70-year-old man with several gunshot wounds. The victim told police he entered the home and was immediately shot by his roommate, Geoffrey Stratton.

Fortunately, the victim was able to flee the scene after being shot. He was taken to a Phoenix-area hospital for treatment.

Police say Stratton was found walking along the street after the incident and admitted to the shooting. He told officers they were arguing over impending fire danger, police say.

Stratton has been booked into jail on attempted homicide and aggravated assault charges.

Anyone with information is asked to call Prescott Police Department Detective John Hanna at 928-777-1961.
