PHOENIX - An 8-year-old boy who was run over by a car on Thursday has been released from Phoenix Children's Hospital.
"I was talking a lot," Eric Gustafson told ABC15, "I was screaming, too."
Gustafon's parents said Eric had been swimming at his grandmother's pool and went to dry off on the sidewalk under the sun. His grandmother was leaving her home in her car and didn't see the boy behind the vehicle.
"It was the worst thing I've ever seen in my life," said Jon, Eric's dad. "I just tried to be really strong."
Prescott Police said Eric was caught between the hitch on the back of the car and the concrete.
The grandmother heard something and immediately pulled forward and found the injured boy.
"At 8-years old, he can be so strong," said Crystal, Eric's mom. "He was more concerned about his grandmother than he was about anything."
Eric's surgery to repair head and facial lacerations and a broken jaw was a success last week.
His family is amazed at his recovery and the nursing staff has dubbed him "the miracle boy."
"I just thank God," said Crystal. "He had angels watching over him."
