Military wife, Katie Wright, updates her husband's 'Welcome Home' sign to pay tribute to Prescott 19

PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ - Families at Tuesday's memorial service found their special ways to pay tribute to the Granite Mountain Hotshots.

There were around 2,000 people who watched the service outside of Tim's Toyota Center.

Some wore purple ribbons, but one woman wanted to do something a little different.

Katie Wright is a military wife with her husband currently serving in Afghanistan. She prepared for his return, even had a "Welcome Home" sign made, but he could not return as planned.

Wright decided to update the sign and use it to honor the 19 firefighters.

"This is his 'Welcome Home' sign. We got it during the procession," she said. "We covered his names with the word Hotshots because I wanted him here in spirit."

The memorial service will re-air Saturday, July 13 at 10 a.m. on ABC15 digital channel 15.2, Cox Cable channel 95 and Century Link channel 16.
